Brockway, Allan R.

Dr. Allan R. Brockway received his B.A. at Henrix College (1954), his B.D. at Perkins School of theology (1957), his M.A. at the University of Chicago (1963) and his Ph.D. at the University of Birmingham, UK (1993). He served as pastor and instructor and on diverse boards and commissions of the United Methodist Church (USA) and was editor of the monthly magazine 'engage/social action' from 1963 to 1978. From 1978 to 1979 he was program specialist for Jewish-Christian Relations with the National Conference of Christians and Jews (Dallas) and from 1979 to 1988 he worked with the World Council of Churches in Geneva, Switzerland, as Secretary of the Consultation on the Church and the Jewish People, where he organized conferences and consultations on Jewish-Christian relations, religious pluralism and multi-faith. He was the editor of the WCC's newsletter 'Current Dialogue', concerned with the program on Dialogue with People of Living Faiths of the World Council of Churches. He also acted as liaison with the Vatican Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews. Dr. Brockway was Recognized Lecturer at the University of Birmingham (Department of Theology) from 1993 to 1994 and Director of Studies at the Centre for the Study of Judaism and Jewish/Christian Relations, Selly Oak Colleges, Birmingham, England, from 1989 to 1994. His research into twentieth-century missionary activity vis-à-vis Jews resulted in a Ph.D. thesis: 'For Love of the Jews: A Theological History of the International Missionary Council's Committee on the Christian Approach to the Jews, 1927-1961'. He has published many articles in a variety of journals and magazines and edited and co-edited six books.
