Presuppositions guide interpretation. Readers of Romans have presumed that the Christians whom Paul addressed were not meeting with the Jews in the synagogues of that city. It is a presumption difficult to detect and seemingly innocuous. Nanos rejects it. The result is a different reading of Romans and a changed understanding of Paul's relationship to the Law.
