Alan T. Davies (Protestant) is Professor in the Department for the Study of Religion at the University of Toronto, Canada, since 1992, and Professor in the Department of Religious Studies, Graduate Faculty, since 1989 at the same University. He is an ordained minister of the United Church of Canada.1954 he received his B.A with Honours in History and English and 1957 his B.D. with Honours in Systematic Theology at McGill University. 1966 he earned his Ph.D. in Christian Ethics at Union Theological Seminary, New York. His doctoral thesis was, 'A Critique of Representative Theological Doctrines Concerning the Jews in the Context of the Church's Involvement in Antisemitism.' Prior to his tenure at the University of Toronto he taught at Union Theological Seminary, at the University of Cincinnati and at Victoria College of the University of Toronto. Throughout his career Prof. Davies has struggled to bring a new understanding and respect for Judaism into Christian teaching and life. Besides writing books and numerous articles he has edited major collections of essays on antisemitism in history and faith.
