Rabbi Raymond Apple, A.M., R.F.D., B.A., LLB., M.Litt. has ministered at the Great Synagogue, Sydney, Australia, since 1972. As an undergraduate, he inaugurated correspondence courses for Jewish children in remote parts of Australia and New Zealand. After rabbinical studies at Jews' College, London, he ministered at Bayswater and Hampstead, also serving on the chief Rabbi's Cabinet and playing an active role in the Council of Christians and Jews. On returning to Australia, he has continued to be in the forefront of Jewish-Christian and interfaith relations. He was one of the founders of the Christian-Jewish Study Centre in Sydney in 1974 and of the N.S.W. Council of Christian and Jews in 1988. He was Chairman of the Australian Council of Christians and Jews, and also Senior Rabbi to the Australian Defence Force and Registrar of the Sydney Beth Din.
