Christoph Muenz was born in 1961 in Limburg a.d.Lahn, Germany. He studied first German Literature, German Language and Catholic Theology at the University of Siegen, Germany, and then changed from theology to history. Through the Cusanus-Werk, the scholarship program of the Catholic bishops of Germany, he received a fellowship and earned his doctorate in history. His dissertation "Der Welt ein Gedächtnis geben. Geschichtstheologisches Denken im Judentum nach Auschwitz" [To Give Memory to the World: Historical-Theological Thinking in Judaism after Auschwitz] has appeared in a second edition (Gütersloh: Gütersloher Verlagshaus; for an English review of his book see here.).
Since 1995 Muenz has freelanced as a translator and author and in adult education. Extensive lecturing and many publications about Jewish history and religion, as well as in Christian-Jewish relations. Several research stays in Israel; collaboration in German-language seminars at the Holocaust memoral Yad Vashem in Jerusalem. Since 1992 collaboration in the Deutscher Koordinierungsrat der Gesellschaften für christlich-jüdische Zusammenarbeit (DKR) [German Coodinating Council of the Societies for Christian-Jewish Cooperation], the umbrella organization of more than 80 local branches of Christian-Jewish cooperation all over Germany. Here he founded and developed the Young Adult Forum, the youth organization of the DKR. Since 1993 Muenz has been a board member of the DKR and co-editor of its annual Themenhefte [books on the topic of the annual brotherhood/sisterhood week].
In 2002 he founded "COMPASS-Infodienst für christlich-jüdische und deutsch-israelische Tagesthemen im Web" [COMPASS-Infoservice about Christian-Jewish and German-Israeli issues of the day on the web], an almost daily newsletter that lists and provides links to almost all current online articles, news and essays dealing with these topics.
