The International Council of Christians and Jews (ICCJ) has announced further details of its 2005 International Conference to be held July 24-27, 2005, in Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A. Speakers will include Dr. Samuel Kobia, General Secretary of the World Council of Churches; Cardinal Francis George of the Archdiocese of Chicago; and prominent Jewish scholars and leaders such as Rabbi Irving Greenberg, Prof. Amy-Jill Levine, and Rabbi David Rosen. This is the first time in 25 years that the ICCJ, a network of 38 organizations in 32 countries, has met in the United States.
The venue of the conference is the Westin River North Hotel in downtown Chicago. Plenary sessions, panel discussions, and workshops will deal with such subjects as religion and public life in the United States, Canada, Europe, Latin America, and Australia/New Zealand; the 40th anniversary of the Vatican II declaration ?Nostra Aetate”; antisemitism; Jewish and Christian perspectives on biomedical issues; theology of the land; and efforts towards reconciliation in the Middle East.
The ICCJ Women?s Conference, originally scheduled to be held in the preceding days, has been postponed until 2006 in Vienna. However, there will be a plenary session at the main conference on Monday afternoon, July 25, on the subject of ?Moving Towards Wholeness ? Women and Religion in the Global World,” with Dr. Mary Boys of Union Theological Seminary, New York, as the speaker.
