Centre for Catholic-Jewish Learning Established in Canada

King's University College, a unit of the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, has announced the establishment of the Centre for Catholic-Jewish Learning, the first such centre to be established in Canada. The Centre is described by the College as a place for scholarly discussion and public education regarding the evolving relationship between the Jewish people and the Roman Catholic Church. It will offer university-level research and teaching as well as providing resources and personnel to educational and community organizations. Its goal is to foster respect and understanding between Jews and Christians and to promote dialogue and debate on topics of mutual concern.

Dr. Gerald Killan, Principal of King's University College, stated that "creating the Centre has been a personal journey of discovery for all of us, a discovery of our shared roots in Hebrew Scripture. We look forward to continuing the journey in mutual understanding and respect." The Board of the Centre is composed of representatives from the Jewish and Catholic communities in London together with faculty and staff of King's University College. Rabbi Joel Wittstein, Rabbi of Temple Israel in London, and Dr. Gil Brodie, senior Religious Studies professor at the College, serve as co-chairs of the Board.

The Centre has established a website at www.uwo.ca/kings/ccjl.
