A celebration of the 40th anniversary of Nostra Aetate in the Great Synagogue of Sydney, Australia, on October 20, 2005, included the launch of a new book on the Second Vatican Council by Cardinal Edward Cassidy, former president of the Commission of the Holy See for Religious Relations with the Jews. Published by Paulist Press, the book is entitled Rediscovering Vatican II: Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue. Comments on the book were offered via pre-recorded video by Cardinal Walter Kasper, current president of the Commission. Jewish reflections were offered by Rabbi Raymond Apple, recently retired spiritual leader of the Great Synagogue, and, also by video, Rabbi David Rosen, international director of interreligious affairs for American Jewish Committee, Jerusalem. The event was co-sponsored by the St. Thomas More Society and the New South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies.
